In vivo quantification and densitometry of the MCP joint tissue on patients with rheumatoid arthritis

چکیده
One of the main diagnostic criteria of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is the radiologic evidence of a loss of bone-mass. In early stages it is the osteoporosis near affected joints advancing to cystic processes that result in joint destruction. A quantification of morphologic changes in the metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint as an effect of RA provides a valuable insight into the pathogenesis of the disease and also provides an objective measure of the state of the degenerative process. An accurate in-vivo estimation of the MCP joint can be performed by means of computer-tomography (CT), however, for patients suffering from RA it is a painful if not impossible process to place their hands properly inside the CT-scanner along the principal axis of the gantry. Hence, the acquired image data is misaligned and measurement on this data will be inaccurate. A solution to the problem of re-alignment of the image data to the principal axes of the MCP joint and the quantification/densitometry of the bone-tissue are presented in this work.

متن کاملPlasma levels of leptin and visfatin in rheumatoid arthritis patients; is there any relationship with joint damage?
Objective (s):Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disorder, primarily targeting the synovium and articular cartilage that leads to joint damage. Recent reports have suggested the role of adipocytokines in mediating joint damage; however it still is a matter of debate. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between serum values of adiopocytokines (lept...

Background: Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is one of the predictors of improvement in handling rheumatoid arthritis. This study was designed to define and compare the time of achieving normal ESR and also the percentage for the normalization of this marker at several points of time in two different combination therapies. Methods: Fifty-two rheumatoid arthritis patients randomly received me...

Background: Osteoporosis (OP) is a common complication of inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this study we evaluated Osteoporosis and its related factors in RA patients. Methods: This cross - sectional study was carried out from 2010 to 2011 on 121 women with RA aged 45-75 years. These patients were selected and divided in two groups according to their bone mineral de...

Background: Heat-shock proteins are part of a strictly controlled biological system that allows organisms to respond to environmental stresses. Different proinflammatory cytokines are present in the synovial tissue of rheumatoid arthritis patients. Such tissues respond to stress and induce heat-shock proteins. In addition, synovial cells are exposed to mechanical stress caused by joint motion. ...
